Genetic diversity

Breed composition

Sire pedigrees are analysed to determine "genetic originality". The tools proposed can help the breeder. They help avoid increasing inbreeding and maintain a sufficiently diverse pedigree.

Breed composition is calculated for each horse. It helps understand the predominance of the different bloodlines in a horse and is useful when considering crossings.

Breed composition allows crossings to be analysed, particularly when a certain percentage of blood is required to be registered in a studbook (e.g. 50% Arabian blood for Arabian half-blood horses). The different breeds which comprise a horse are assessed using its pedigree.
